ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ日本館展示の帰国展。この展示以降の取り組みとして、流れを重ねることで場をつくる試みを展示。計画中の「五本木の集合住宅」における取り組みを示した。

2つの循環
「Socialな循環」と「Ecologicalな循環」という、2つの循環のなかに建築を位置づけようと思う。居住専用住宅とそれらからなるシステムのオルタナティブをつくり出したい。
これまで「食堂付きアパート」をはじめ、《小さな経済》に着目した住宅をつくってきた。Socialな循環を支える建築である。新しい相互扶助の空間が住宅の中に備わっている。
一方で「この建築はどのような形態を持ち、どのように維持されるのか」という興味が、Ecologicalな循環を意識することにつながっている。建築の形態を通して、その土地の風や雨を利用し、日射熱を利用することである。外部と交流する建築を、自然エネルギーの力で支えることは、心地よい交流とともに、建築が開放的でありつづけることを後押しするはずだ。
2つの循環を掛け合わせた先には、それを「アジアモンスーン地帯の建築」と言っていいのかはまだ分からないけれども、自己を内省し、他者や外部に親和的な、そんな日常生活を支える建築の予感がある。
Two Cycles
We attempt to locate a building in two cycles, one social and the other ecological. We would like to create an alternative to houses that are made exclusively for dwelling and the system that arises from them.
In past works such as Apartment with a Restaurant, I have designed houses by focusing on the “small economy.” This type of architecture supports the social cycle. Such houses are furnished with a new space for mutual aid.
On the other hand, my interest in the form and maintenance of such architecture has made me aware of the ecological cycle. An architectural form enables us to make use of the wind, rain, and solar heat in the area.
Using the power of natural energy to support a building’s relationship with the outside should lead to comfortable interactions and ensure that the building remains open.
It is not yet clear whether this union of the two cycles might eventually be termed “architecture for the Asian monsoon climate.” The approach does, however, promise to create architecture that inspires self-reflection and promotes daily life with an affinity for others and the outside.
