Matsumoto Special School

長野スクールプロジェクト（NSD）のひとつ。知的障がいをもつ児童・生徒たちの特別支援学校の一部を建て替えて増築し、既存校舎は改修する。ラーニングストリートを新しい骨格として、雁行した中学部棟など、小さな居場所を組み込んだ校舎をつくる。隣接する小学校や公民館との関係もより深化させ、地域の中であるべき特別支援学校の姿を追求している。2029年竣工を目指し、現在はフェーズ１新築工事中。
This is one of the Nagano Schools Projects (NSD). Renovation and extension of the existing special school. The school building will be constructed with a ‘Learning Street’ as a new spine, incorporating small living spaces. We are pursuing the ideal form for the special needs school within the community, while also deepening the relationship with the neighbouring primary school and a community center. The first phase of new construction works is underway, aiming for completion in 2029..
Learning Street, where specialised classrooms are concentrated, forms the heart of the campus. This constitutes the foundational development, anticipating the second phase of construction thirty years hence.
Adjacent to the entrance hall, a multimedia room (library) will be created. Learning Street is conceived as a place akin to a small town, where one might go out specifically to read books.

小さな社会を埋め込む
知的障がいを持つ小学生、中学生、高校生のための特別支援学校である。既存校舎の半分ほどを建て替え、また、残す校舎も一部を改修して、全体を新しい学びの場として再編する。
新しい松本養護学校の中心は、特別教室がまとまって配置されるラーニングストリートである。見通しの良いこの空間は小さな「街」である。向かい合う特別教室の境界を工夫し、授業の様子が見えたり、空間を広く使ったりできる。
一方で教室廻りは「家」のような領域と位置付け、大小さまざまな空間を配置し、児童・生徒はそれぞれのペースで過ごせる。既存校舎での教室廻りの改修も同様の考え方に基づく。
「家」と「街」を行き来する体験は小さな社会生活である。学校での生活が卒業後の生活に繋がるような、建築空間での支援を考えている。
Embedding a Small Society
This is a special needs school for primary, middle and high school students with intellectual disabilities. Approximately half of the existing school buildings have been rebuilt, while remaining structures have been refurbished, reorganising the entire site into a new learning environment.
The core of the new school is the “Learning Street”, where subject rooms are grouped together. This open space forms a small “town”. The boundaries between these rooms are designed to be ambiguous, enabling flexible usage.
Meanwhile, the regular classroom area is conceived as the “house” zone. Spaces of various sizes are arranged, designed to allow pupils to spend time at their own pace.
Moving between “house” and “town” constitutes small scale social lives. The architectural design aims to support students, ensuring their school experience connects to life after graduation.
